Noticed something ??
I’ve changed the name of my space from to Ripples in the water.
Why? Just because the old name was not reflecting the content of this blog. This new name signifies change, it signifies some moment..
Have you heard the song from Rang de basanti, which says,
"Abhi abhi.. hua yakeen..
Ke aag hai, mujhme kahi…"
This means, i just realised that there is some fire within me.
Enough about the new name.
I’ve also added RSS modules which gives you up to date news from business, technology, movies and other areas. is also taking the shape.
Please let me know about this change and the new name.
Happy surfing.

AjaxWrite, the Newest Ajax Office Entrant

Ajax is creating lot of buzz these days.
From Google finance to Yahoo’s new mail, everyone seems to using it.
Its very powerful scripting language and can be used to create complex online applications.
Have a look what people are doing with it..

AjaxWrite, an online Ajax version of Word, is the newest entrant into the online office space. It opens and saves documents in Word format (you can also save in PDF), has good basic functionality and is fairly fast. I agree with Michael Robertson, the man behind AjaxWrite, that this and other Ajax Word products like Writely and Zoho Writer significanly reduce the need for most of the world’s population to buy Microsoft Word.

AjaxWrite is bare bones by design and fast. If you need to read and/or edit a Word doc quickly, this is a workable solution and I assume it will get better and faster over time. AjaxWrite currently is Firefox only.

Michael also tells us to look out for new weekly Ajax applications at his new site, AjaxLaunch. AjaxWrite is the first. I’m looking forward to the next.

Will things like AjaxWrite have an impact on Microsoft’s Office revenues over time? Yeah, it must. Even so, Bill Gates says that he just doesn’t understand our infatuation with thin client versions of Word. That may be true, but at some point I expect Microsoft to come out with ad supported versions of their own clients…they’ll just wait, of course, until they have to. And Google has pushed the envelope with its recent acquisition of Writely.

More on GigaOm. Om asks about the business model…If people start using this as an alternative to Word, money can easily be made on advertising around the site, with a premium paid version. It won’t be a huge money maker, but hey, that’s the point – to drastically reduce the cost of using Office for the average user.

Change Your Focus To the Gaps

Meditaion of the week

Buddha used to say that when a thought arises, note down that a thought is arising. Just inside, note it: now a thought is arising, now a thought has arisen, now a thought is disappearing. Just remember that now the thought is arising, now the thought has arisen, now the thought is disappearing, so that you don’t get identified with it.

It is very beautiful and very simple. A desire arises. You are walking on the road; a beautiful car passes by. You look at it ― and you have not even looked and the desire to possess it arises. Do it. In the beginning just verbalize; just say slowly, “I have seen a car. It is beautiful. Now a desire has arisen to possess it.” Just verbalize.

In the beginning it is good; if you can say it loudly, it is very good. Say loudly, ‘I am just noting that a car has passed, the mind has said it is beautiful, and now desire has arisen and I must possess this car.’ Verbalize everything, speak loudly to yourself and immediately you will feel that you are different from it. Note it.

When you have become efficient in noting, there is no need to say it loudly. Just inside, note that a desire has arisen. A beautiful woman passes; the desire has come in. Just note it ― as if you are not concerned, you are just noting the fact that is happening ― and then suddenly you will be out of it.

Buddha says, “Note down whatsoever happens. Just go on noting, and when it disappears, again note that now that desire has disappeared, and you will feel a distance from the desire, from the thought.”

And if you can consider that a desire has arisen and a desire has gone and you have remained in the gap and the desire has not disturbed you…. It came, it went. It was there, and it is now not there, and you have remained unperturbed, you have remained as you were before it. There has been no change in you. It came and it passed like a shadow. It has not touched you; you remain unscarred.

Consider this movement of desire and movement of thought but no movement in you. Consider and dissolve in the beauty. And that interval is beautiful. Dissolve in that interval. Fall in the gap and be the gap. It is the deepest experience of beauty. And not only of beauty, but of good and of truth also. In the gap you are.

More updates to MSN Spaces

MSN Spaces team has done it again.
They have introduced few more features today. Have a look..

RSS Feed Module
One of the things mike like to say around here is that your MSN Space is kind of like your digital self.  It’s comprised of the things you’re publishing and sharing… it’s how you express yourselves to others… it looks and feels how you want it to.  Yet until today, your MSN Space could only really have content on it from Microsoft.
Your profile, blog, photos, favorites, lists, Xbox stats… all cool features.  But what if you have a blog on TypePad or WordPress?  What if you use Flickr to manage your photo albums and only use MSN Spaces to stay in touch with your friends on Messenger?  Or you track your goals on and your upcoming movies through NetFlix?  Shouldn’t you be able to share things from around the web on your space?
Starting tonight you can thanks to the wonders of RSS!  Just follow these simple steps:
1. Enter "Edit Mode" of your space.
2. Click "Customize"
3. In the "Modules" dropdown, select "RSS Feed"
4. Save your layout
To associate a feed with that module, just click "Edit" on that module.  You’ll be presented with some sample feeds or you can type in any feed URL.  Give it a name and the number of items you want to appear on your space and you’re finished!
One more thing is, Windows Live Favorites is available too…  The beauty of this feature is, you’re in charge of what you want to share… not microsoft.

Permissions & Friends
You may have noticed that in the Permissions drop-down for your space and profile/contact information, you now see options for "Friends" and "Friends of my Friends".
The Friends list is only available in Australia at this time.  But selecting these options won’t hurt you if your spaces isn’t in Australia.  Since you technically have no Friends in this case (sorry!) giving them permission to something doesn’t actually do anything.
So why are these options even there?  Well, if your space has been setup in Australia the options are actually functional today.  But also because those options will soon do something for non-Australian spaces as well.  You’ll have the ability to have a "semi-private" space, only allowing people to view your content who are friends or friends of your friends.  You’ll also be able to do the same thing for your general or social profile information and your contact information.  Privacy and control are good things.

Live Expo Module

Check out this post from Team Expo (snippet)

Today, we’re thrilled to launch our integration with MSN Spaces.  This integration allows you to post a free listing on Expo and have an abstract and thumbnail image displayed automatically on the front page of your MSN Space.  Visitors to your Space can view abstracts from your different Expo listings and click directly to view more information and communicate with you via IM or anonymous messaging.

One of the coolest parts about this integration is this: "By posting a listing on Expo, your Space is updated, your MSN Messenger contact card is updated, and you gleam to your Messenger buddies.  We hope that this automatic ‘promotion’ of your listing among those who share your interests provides the right kind of directed traffic to your listing."
This feature is only available in the U.S. right now.  As Expo expands to more international markets, so will this feature…  You can check it out by heading over to and posting a new entry, opting to also share it on your space.  Enjoy!

India has a online Grievance forum

Can you imagine this happening in INDIA?

Government of India has a online Grievance forum at:

The government wants people to use this tool to highlight the problems they faced while dealing with Government officials or departments like Passport Office, Electricity board, BSNL/MTNL, Railways etc etc.

I know many people will say that these things don’t work in India, but this actually works as one of our colleague in CSC found. The guy I’m talking about lives in Faridabad. Couple of months back, the Faridabad Municipal Corporation laid new roads in his area and the residents were very happy about it. But 2 weeks later, BSNL dugged up the newly laid roads to install new cables which annoyed all the residents including this guy. But it was only this guy who used the above listed grievance forum to highlight his concern. And to his surprise, BSNL and Municipal Corporation of faridabad was served a show cause notice and the guy received a copy of the notice in one week. Government has asked the MC and BSNL about the goof up as its clear that both the government departments were not in sync at all.

So use this grievance forum and educate others who don’t know about this facility.

This way we can at least raise our concerns instead of just talking about the ‘System’ in India. Invite your friends to contribute for many such happenings.
