Eat and Drink Consciously

Meditation of the week

We eat very unconsciously, automatically, robotlike. If the taste is not lived, you are just stuffing. Go slow, and be aware of the taste. Do not just go on swallowing things. Taste them unhurriedly and become the taste. When you feel sweetness, become that sweetness. And then it can be felt all over the body — not just in the mouth, not just on the tongue, it can be felt all over the body spreading in ripples.

Whatsoever you are eating, feel the taste and become the taste. With no taste, your senses will be deadened. They will become less and less sensitive. And with less sensitivity, you will not be able to feel your body, you will not be able to feel your feelings. Then you will just remain centered in the head.

When drinking water, feel the coolness. Close your eyes, drink it slowly, taste it. Feel the coolness and feel that you have become that coolness, because the coolness is being transferred to you from the water; it is becoming a part of your body. Your mouth is touching, your tongue is touching, and the coolness is transferred. Allow it to happen to the whole of your body. Allow its ripples to spread, and you will feel a coolness all over your body. In this way your sensitivity can grow, and you can become more alive and more filled.

Now what’s that?? A version of greetings cards maker from Microsoft?? No, its a new family of professional tools for Web & Windows Vista.

Ok, so you might ask, who are the family members!! Yeah, so presenting:

  • Acrylic Graphic Designer: A painting & illustration tool, some of you might be familiar with it if you’ve heard the recent buzz about the bitmap & vector graphics tool from Microsoft or downloaded & tried a beta of it.

It boasts of having dynamic visual effects & a hybrid graphic environment which lets you switch between vector & bitmap elements.

  • Sparkle Interactive Designer: Its a user interface(UI) design tool that can be used to create engaging & 3D interfaces for your Windows applications using the Windows Presentation Foundation.
  • Quartz Web Designer: This is a web-design tool(another FrontPage??) which, according to Microsoft, will let you unleash your creativity with sophisticated CSS design features etc.

Though it sounds cool but Microsoft has a great skill at making even worse things sound cool, so we’ll just see how good this stuff is. I haven’t tried anything from this family yet.. just waiting for the pirated copy to arrive 🙂

Not too long ago, a large seminar was held for ministers and reverends in training.

Among the facilitators were many well-known motivational speakers. One such speaker boldly approached the pulpit and, gathering the entire crowd’s attention, said,

"The best years of my life were spent in the arms of a woman who wasn’t my wife!"

The crowd was shocked! He followed up by saying,

"That woman was my mother!" The crowd burst into laughter and he gave his speech, which was well received.

About a week later, one of the ministers who had attended the seminar decided to use that joke in his sermon. As he shyly approached the pulpit one sunny Sunday, he tried to rehearse the joke in his head. It was a bit foggy to him. Getting to the microphone he said loudly, "The greatest years of my life were spent in the arms of a woman who was not my wife!"

His congregation sat shocked, murmuring. After standing there for almost 10 seconds trying to recall the second half of the joke, the pastor finally blurted out "…and I can’t remember who she was!"

Moral of the story: Don’t copy if you can’t paste.

Sambhar

of 69 (lyrics)

I had my first real six rupees,

Stole it from my father’s pants.

went to a madrasi hotel,

to eat the sambhar of 69.

Me and some kadke dost,

had it all and we caught bukhaar,

jimy puked, joey got ulcers,

and Bagga ne maari dakar.

Oh when I went back there now,

the food was as stale as ever,

and though it was 1999,

still the sambhar was being served over there,

that was the worst food of my life.

Therez no use in complaining,

when you got no other place to eat,

rushed in the evening to the doctors clinic,

but he too was at the toilet seat, yeah

standing there waiting outside,

nurse told me I will wait forever,

oh and when I held my breath,

I knew that I had to use that loo there

That was the worst food of my life.

Back to the sambhar of 69.

Man I was getting killed,

I was full and restless,

I needed to unwind,

I guess nothing can wait forever – FOREVER… NO!!!!

And now the dhabas are changing,

new dishes have come and gone,

sometimes when I pass that old madrasi lane,

I still smell it, I can’t be wrong.

Standing in those unwashed clothes,

the waiters still call me in there,

oh the way my nostrils burn,

I know that it will be served forever,

what was the worst food of my life.

yeah it was the sambhar of 69,

the sambhar, the sambhar, the sambhar of 69 ……………

Original Summer of 69

I got my first real six-string

Bought it at the five-and-dime

Played it till my fingers bled

It was the summer of ’69

Me and some guys from school

Had a band and we tried real hard

Jimmy quit and Jody got married

I shoulda known we’d never get far

Oh when I look back now

That summer seemed to last forever

And if I had the choice

Ya – I’d always wanna be there

Those were the best days of my life

Ain’t no use in complainin’

When you got a job to do

Spent my evenin’s down at the drive-in

And that’s when I met you

Standin’ on your mama’s porch

You told me that you’d wait forever

Oh and when you held my hand

I knew that it was now or never

Those were the best days of my life

Back in the summer of ’69

Man we were killin’ time

We were young and restless

We needed to unwind

I guess nothin’ can last forever – forever, no

And now the times are changin’

Look at everything that’s come and gone

Sometimes when I play that old six-string

I think about ya wonder what went wrong

Standin’ on your mama’s porch

You told me it would last forever

Oh the way you held my hand

I knew that it was now or never

Those were the best days of my life

Finding Silence in the Center of Sound

Meditation of the week

Close your eyes and feel the whole universe filled with sound. Feel as if every sound is moving toward you and you are the center. This feeling that you are the center will give you a very deep peace. The whole universe becomes the circumference and you are the center, and everything is moving toward you, falling toward you.

The center is without sound, that is why you can hear sounds — a sound cannot hear another sound. The center is absolute silence. That is why you can hear sounds entering you, coming to you, penetrating you, encircling you.

If you can find out where is the center, where is the field in you to where every sound is coming, suddenly sounds will disappear and you will enter into soundlessness. If you can feel a center where every sound is being heard, there is a sudden transference of consciousness. One moment you will be hearing the whole world filled with sounds, and another moment your awareness will suddenly turn in and you will hear the soundlessness, the center of life.

Do not start thinking about the sounds — that this is good and that is bad, and this is disturbing and that is very beautiful and harmonious. Simply think of the center. Just remember that you are the center and all the sounds are moving toward you — every sound, whatsoever the sort.

Sounds are not heard in the ears, the ears cannot hear them. The ears only do a transmission work, and in the transmission they cut out much which is useless for you. They choose, they select, and then those sounds enter you. Now find out within, where is your center. The ears are not the center, you are hearing from somewhere deep down. The ears are simply sending you the selected sounds. Where are you? Where is your center?

Purposeless life..

Life is its own purpose; it is not a means to some end, it is an end unto itself.
The bird on the wing, the rose in the wind, the sun rising in the morning, the stars in the night, a man falling in love with a woman, a child playing on the street…
there is no purpose.
Life simply enjoying itself, delighting in itself.
Energy overflowing, dancing, for no purpose at all.
